The ram fork type electric hydraulic steering gear series consists of one set of ram type driving mechanism, two sets of motor kinetic tank for oil pump, one oil tank, which has simple structure to install and is widely used in navigation zone of inland rapid flowing river, normal navigation zone, and for sea ship. When use for navigation zone of inland rapid flowing river, the steering gear, specification below 16kn·m, is added an extra pressure accumulator or a set of manual emergency pump for emergency steering control; specification above 16kn·m, is added an extra set of DC motor pump unit for emergency, to comply with CCS rules.
Control mode of this steering gear series includes direct control of hand-operated direction valve, direct control of steering mechanism,electronic control, pump control and etc. Electronic and pump control can be used together with any form of autopilot and follow-up pilot.
The ratio of the length and breadth can differ quite dramatically depending on the type of vessel. Common values:
A larger L/B value is favorable for speed, but unfavorable for manoeuvrability.
The length/depth-ratio. The customary values for L/D varies between 10 and 15. This relation plays a role in the determination of the freeboard and the longitudinal strength.
The breadth/draught -ratio, varies between 2.3-4.5. A larger breadth in relation to the draught (a larger B/T value) gives a greater initial stability.
The breadth / depth ratio, varies between 1.3 and 2. If this value becomes larger, it will have an unfavorable effect on the stability (because the deck will be flooded when the vessel has an inclination) and on the strength.
